I used these as safety straps so some tall narrow bookcases wouldn't fall over. They are overbuilt for this but I wanted extra strong brackets. With kids around, glass doors and hardwood bookcases that are heavy without anything in them we didn't want to take any chances. They are virtually undetectable as installed below.I bolted them directly into the studs with 3" bolts.Find the studs first and mark their position. Lay the brackets on top of the bookcase exactly how you want them and mark their position. Pull the bookcase out and bolt the brackets into the wall first. Slide the bookcase back under the bracket and then put the screws in from the top down into the top of the bookcase.
